NASC in association with Brightening Air | Coiscéim Coiligh

A national arts programme for young people by young people

In a new innovative approach to programming, twenty-one young curators have been engaged by the NASC Theatre Network venues across the country, to programme Lasta - a festival of work for children and young people. They will deliver, for the first time, a national arts programme curated entirely by young people.
Running from 11-20 June 2021Lasta is presented as part of Brightening Air | Coiscéim Coiligh, a nationwide, ten day season of arts experiences brought to you by the Arts Council. Lasta promises to be a fresh, fun, diverse, accessible and exciting festival of events. Further details will be announced soon!
We're delighted to annoucne that Pavilion Theatre's young curators are Julia Appleby, Helen Major and Hannah-Kate Ní Shioradáin. We're so excited to welcome them and look foward to working together over the next few months as they bring together an exciting programme of events. As well as programming events especially for Pavilion Theatre, they will collaborate with the other young curators to help programme events to be shared across the eight partner venues.
Under the guidance of theatre artists Maisie Lee and Fionn Foley, these young curators will work collaboratively to deliver an ambitious programme of work for young people across the country. Featuring multiple disciplines and reflecting the diversity of modern Ireland, this pioneering project offers a unique opportunity to develop our future arts programmers and producers.
Lasta has evolved from a young curators’ programme originally created by the Backstage Theatre in Longford in 2020. That project engaged four young curators with an aim of giving young people a voice in programming at the venue. Such was the success of the project that in 2021 it was decided to expand the festival across all eight venues in the Nasc Network.
Established in 2006, the NASC Network is a partnership of eight venues who work together to present touring projects and share marketing and other areas of expertise.
The NASC Theatre Network venues are An Grianán (Letterkenny), glór (Ennis), Siamsa Tíre (Tralee), Pavilion Theatre (Dún Laoghaire), The Lime Tree Theatre (Limerick), Dunamaise (Port Laoise), Town Hall Theatre (Galway), Backstage (Longford).
