On the Border
with Nuala O'Connor, Diarmaid Ferriter and Eoin MacNamee
The border between the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland has been a topic of dispute for over a century, first in Dublin, Belfast and Westminster and now, post Brexit referendum, in Brussels.
In The Border: The Legacy of a Century of Anglo-Irish Politics, Professor Diarmaid Ferriter charts the history of the Border from the divisive 1920s Act to the Treaty and its aftermath, through 'the Troubles' and the Good Friday Agreement up to the Brexit negotiations.
With the fate of the border uncertain, the Border is a timely intervention into one of the most contentious and misunderstood political issues of our time.
Joining us are film maker Nuala O’Connor in the chair, and novelist Eoin McNamee who grew up spanning the border and whose latest novel The Vogue is an unforgettable novel of ghosts, lies and the how the past can return with a vengeance.
