Dublin International Piano Competition

Saeyoon Chon (piano)

in Recital

The Dublin International Piano Competition is proud to present the winner of its 2018 Competition, the Korean pianist Saeyoon Chon, in recital at Pavilion Theatre. Chon has been widely praised for his flawless technique and hugely sensitive musicianship. His programme includes towering masterpieces of the 19th Century alongside a short work by Belfast composer Deirdre Gribbin.

Saeyoon Chon has been a major prize winner at international piano competitions in Hong Kong, Valencia, Los Angeles, and Seoul, plus Hilton Head International Piano Competition and Young Concert Artists. He has performed at the Verbier, Fourseasons, Orford and Rockport Festivals.

Chon made his New York debut at Carnegie Hall and has given solo recitals at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Seoul Arts Center in Seoul, and many others.

The Dublin International Piano Competition was established in Dublin in 1987. The first Competition took place in 1988 and the thirteenth Competition will take place in 2025.  Pianist Finghin Collins became the DIPC’s second Artistic Director in 2023, succeeding one of the founders of the Competition, pianist John O’Conor.

The DIPC is ranked among the best piano competitions worldwide and brings a dazzling array of talent to Dublin every three years, inspiring generations of Irish musicians and audiences.  Presenting its former winners and nurturing their careers is one of the central missions of the Competition and it is in this spirit that we present Saeyoon Chon in recital.
