The Oscar Wilde Season
An Ideal Husband (Encore Screening)
by Oscar Wilde
A new production of the Rolls-Royce of comedies, Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband, filmed live at the Vaudeville Theatre in London’s West End, is returning to our big screen.
This entertaining and still topical play brings an act of political sin into the heart of the English home. As an ambitious government minister, Sir Robert Chiltern’s smooth ascent to the top seems assured until Mrs Cheveley appears in London with damning proof of his previous financial chicanery.
The cast includes Olivier Award-winner Nathaniel Parker, Sally Bretton (Not Going Out) and Susan Hampshire (Monarch of the Glen) Olivier Award-nominated Frances Barber (Silk) and real-life father and son Edward (The Day of the Jackal) and Freddie Fox (Cucumber & Banana).
This is the third play from the Oscar Wilde Season, a year-long celebration of the brilliant Victorian playwright being staged by the Classic Spring Theatre Company, and is directed by Jonathan Church.
