Sound of Falling
(In die Sonne schauen)
The second feature film from director Mascha Schilinski elegantly weaves together disparate characters and eras of modern history into a work that part ghost story, part intergenerational epic.
Sound of Falling documents the lives of four girls linked to a farmhouse in Germany across the 20th Century and into the 21st. From a young girl in the 1910s haunted by photos of dead relatives to a teenager rebelling decades later, all four characters live very different lives - but are unknowingly linked by moments of intense emotion, trauma and loss.
Told with impeccable craft and overflowing with an eerie atmosphere, Sound of Falling is one of the most ambitious and distinctive European films of recent times.
