Mark Lewisohn & Nothing Is Real: 60 Years of a Hard Day’s Night

Mark Lewisohn in conversation with Steven Cockcroft & Jason Carty of Nothing Is Real

On the imminent 60th Anniversary of A Hard Day’s Night, join historian and biographer Mark Lewisohn – the acknowledged world authority on The Beatles – live in conversation with Jason Carty and Steven Cockcroft, hosts of the #1 Beatles podcast Nothing Is Real.

Before The Beatles came along, rock ‘n’ roll movies were usually low-quality efforts designed to showcase the latest star and turn a quick buck. A Hard Day’s Night managed to become something else altogether, capturing the wit, talent and presence of John, Paul, George and Ringo alongside all the attendant mania.

How did this happen? Once again, The Beatles were the masters of circumstance and timing. A scriptwriter with an ear for the vernacular… A director tailor-made for them… A movie studio with a far-sighted eye on the American market… Two songwriters at their collaborative peak… And four leads who were naturals at looking down the camera.

Mark Lewisohn is the Beatles world authority. He’s the author of several acclaimed books, including Recording Sessions (1988) and Tune In (2013), winner of the inaugural Penderyn Prize and the first in a comprehensive three-volume history, The Beatles: All These Years. Mark is still hard at work on volume two.

Since 2019, Jason Carty and Steven Cockcroft have discussed and dissected The Beatles across over 180 episodes of their award-winning podcast, Nothing Is Real. No topic is out of bounds. Whether it’s Hey Jude, the year 1974, or The Films of Ringo Starr; everything that happens in the Beatles Universe is interesting, because they did it.
