Dying
(Sterben)
Older couple Lissy (Corinna Harfouch) and Gerd (Hans-Uew Bauer) are nearing the end of their lives. Lissy struggles to care for an increasingly fragile Gerd and has been diagnosed with a terminal illness herself. They receive little support from their adult children: talented conductor Tom (Lars Lunies) is struggling with both his career and increasingly messy personal life, while self-destructive Ellen (Lilith Stangenberg) is caught up in a doomed affair with a colleague.
Employing a clever novelistic structure that frequently switches perspective between different members of the family, Matthias Glasner’s captivating new film is an epic drama about a broken family. With a blackly comic streak and a perceptive eye for character detail, Dying explores mortality and the tribulations of modern life in surprising yet rewarding ways.
