Good One
17-year-old Sam (Lily Collias) heads off on a camping trip with her father Chris (James Le Gros) and his best friend Matt (Danny McCarthy), but is left disappointed when she discovers Matt’s son has backed out at the last minute. The remaining trio push ahead with their plan for three days in the open air. After initially enjoying the strenuous but fun hike, Sam’s perspective shifts as the two men’s frustrations with life and relationships come to the fore by the nightly campfire.
This highly accomplished debut feature from American writer / director India Donaldson is a modern indie gem. Set in the scenic Catskills region of New York, this is an elegantly-crafted character study that unfurls slowly and ultimately unearths some difficult, unspoken truths.
