28 November 2023
Pavilion Studio 2024: Residency Open Call

Following another bumper year of Pavilion Studio residencies bursting with creativity and imagination, Pavilion Theatre is holding a fresh Open Call looking for playwrights, makers in theatre and stage-based performance artists to apply for one-week residencies at Pavilion Studio January to June 2024 to develop existing work or create new work.

Successful applicants will be given access to Pavilion Studio for one week (Monday to Friday, 10.00am - 5.30pm) at Pavilion Studio located in Moran Park House above the Irish Design Gallery, Dún Laoghaire.

Successful applicants and any listed collaborators present during the week will receive a payment for their time at Pavilion Studio, subject to budget and preapproval, kindly supported by the Arts Council of Ireland. Along with this payment we can also offer childcare or carer support where applicable.

“This is an essential program for artists. There are so few of these left that work this well and offer this level of support and compensation. Cannot recommend it enough. Long may it live.”
Hannah Mamalis – Pavilion Studio 2023

The Space

The Studio is located on the second floor by stairs in the Irish Design Gallery just a short walk from Pavilion Theatre. The room itself is bright and comfortable, overlooking Dún Laoghaire Harbour and the dlr LexIcon library. It is an open, calm, functional space for artists to use as they wish; a blank canvas for inspiration. It might be used for writing, meetings, or small-scale production readings and development.

The building has a small kitchenette and toilet, and Wi-Fi is also available. The building is a shared space so successful applicants must be mindful of occupants in surrounding rooms and those on lower floors. Due to this we cannot accept applicants wishing to work with instruments or loud music. The Studio is a perfect location for creativity with the sea, library, Dún Laoghaire Town and Pavilion Theatre all a stone’s throw away.

Pavilion Studio is only accessible by stairs; however, an alternative space can be made available for artists with accessibility requests. If you need accommodations made please note this in your application.

“This Pavilion residency is a smartly-designed and beautifully-executed piece of support for freelance artists. The studio is a perfect room for writing and thinking in. The location is conducive to reflection and peaceful removal from other stresses.”
Colin Murphy – Pavilion Studio 2023
