Crash Ensemble perform Philip Glass’ Glassworks
as part of Between the Notes
Glassworks was written by Philip Glass (Einstein on the Beach, Koyaanisqatsi, The Truman Show) in 1981 as a studio recording in a wildly innovative attempt to merge minimalism and pop, creating ‘classical’ pieces with infectious pop hooks. It soon became one of the composer’s most popular works.
Released in 1982 as an LP and cassette on the CBS label, whose roster of artists includes Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen, The LP and cassette had their own separate mixes. The LP was for home listening and the cassette had a headphone specific mix. It was Glass’s successful attempt to create a more pop-oriented ‘Walkman-suitable’ work.
Crash Ensemble is Ireland’s leading new music ensemble; a group of world-class musicians who play the most adventurous, ground-breaking music of today. They play music, tell stories, and bring our audiences on extraordinary new adventures.
