Just An Illusion
(Just une illusion)
Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, the directors of the hit comedy-drama The Intouchables, return with this funny and charming study of family life.
1985, the Paris suburbs. 13-year-old Vincent lives in an apartment block with his parents Yves and Sandrine and older brother Amaud. Yves has recently lost his job and is trying to hide the fact from his family. Vincent and his friends, meanwhile, are experiencing the highs and lows of early adolescence. When assigned to a school project with his classmate Anne-Karine, Vincent is determined to win her over.
Just an Illusion is a lovingly nostalgic crowd-pleaser that captures a particular French sensibility alongside universal truths about growing up. It also boasts an impressively rich soundtrack of 80s hits, including the titular Imagination classic.
