Passarim Ensemble: Ritmo del Sur

A Latin American Jazz Journey

Led by Italian-Argentinian singer and pianist Annalisa Monticelli, this six-piece international ensemble features some of Ireland’s most respected jazz performers, including Venezuelan pianist Leopoldo Osio, saxophonist and flautist Michael Buckley, guitarist Aidan Rainsford, bassist Derek Whyte, and drummer/percussionist Brendan Doherty.

Annalisa’s Argentinian roots infuse her vocals with a deep understanding of Latin American music, shaped by years of performing across the continent. Leopoldo’s extensive experience in Brazil brings an authentic touch to their arrangements, while Michael’s natural affinity for South American idioms highlights his virtuoso playing on saxophone and flute. Aidan’s nylon-string guitar lends captivating rhythmic textures to the sound, grounded by the pulsating and joyous foundation of Derek Whyte on double bass and Brendan Doherty on drums.

Passarim interprets iconic composers from across the rich tapestry of South American musical traditions. Paying homage to legends like Tom Jobim, Roberto Menescal, and Astor Piazzolla, their setlist moves fluidly between bossa nova, samba, tango, and bolero. Following their acclaimed tribute album to Jobim and show Echoes of The South at the Pavilion Theatre, they return with new songs, fresh arrangements, and deeper explorations of South America’s magical music landscape.
