Another artist in the Dún Laoghaire Folk Festival 2026 line-up no stranger to these parts is Andy Irvine. He is royalty in Irish folk music terms although he would most likely not appreciate that metaphor. He is one-time member of Sweeney’s Men, Planxty, Patrick Street, Mozaik, LAPD, Usher’s Island, and compadre of Paul Brady amongst others. As a soloist, Andy fills the role of the archetypal troubadour with a show and a travelling lifestyle that reflect his lifelong influence, Woody Guthrie. To quote the Irish Times, "Often copied, never equalled", his repertoire consists of Irish traditional songs, dexterous Balkan dance tunes and a compelling canon of his own self-penned songs.
Roisín Gowen is emerging indie-folk singer-songwriter from Ireland whose Her debut album Out of Grief, Into the Garden, released in March 2026, is a 9-track record about love as much as it is about loss. It is an intimate, acoustic-centred collection that reflects on the process of finding peace and resolution after the confusing and painful loss of a mother. It holds both a heavy heart and a gentle spirit, capturing the longing for our loved ones who have passed whilst trying to understand how to navigate our futures without them.
Dutch British singer-songwriter Tessa Rose Jackson released her third studio album The Lighthouse this year — a haunting yet life-affirming reflection on ancestry, belonging and the stories we inherit. Written in rural France, the album blends spectral folk, cinematic alt-pop and ghostly folklore, exploring themes of mortality, memory and gratitude. The album was awarded Guardian Folk Album of the Month who described it as a “luminous folk rebirth.”
